Accessibility
This page contains all essential information about accessibility to the USL's services. We are happy to provide assistance if you require additional information or support.
Buildings of the USL
The USL buildings unfortunately are not fully accessible. Central areas of the Main Library and MNL Branch Library do, however, offer step-free access. Keep reading to learn more.
Main Library
- Parking: a designated disability parking space is located to the left of the Main Library. Please contact the staff at the information/lending desk to raise the barrier gate.
- Step-free access: looking at the building from Adenauerallee, you will find a wheelchair-accessible ramp to the left of the building leading from the parking lot to the main entrance. The doors on the right side of the main entrance open automatically.
- Automated Entry Control: Library users who use wheelchairs or walking aids may enter the Main Library through the large gate. Please approach the security staff directly at the entrance if you need assistance.
- The lending desk, reading room, and information desk are moderately accessible using a stair lift in the entrance area.
- The Curtius reading room and event rooms MFR 1 and MFR 2 are moderately accessible via an elevator located in the stairwell.
- Workstations: A disability inclusive workstation is located in the reading room, on the right side near the copy center.
- Restrooms: An accessible restroom is located near the main entrance behind the lockers. The key is available from custodial staff in the foyer or the employees at the help desk in the reading room.
- Lockers: accessible lockers are located in the entrance area of the Main Library.
- Tactile Walking Surface Indicators: The Main Library unfortunately is not equipped with tactile walking surface indicators.
MNL Branch Library
- Parking: a designated disabled parking space is located next to the rear entrance on the side of the building facing Nußallee.
- Step-free access: we would be happy to open the partition door at the main entrance for moderately accessible access to the library, or you can use the wheelchair-accessible ramp at the rear entrance by the parking lot. The doors must be operated manually.
- The ground floor with the lending desk and information desk has step-free access.
- Workstations: An accessible workstation is located in the Media Center on the ground floor.
- Unfortunately, the other floors with the reading rooms, training room, and stacks have no step-free access. For fire safety reasons, it is not possible to use the elevators with a wheelchair.
- Restrooms: Due to ongoing renovations, there is currently no accessible restroom in the building. Accessible restrooms are located in the Poppelsdorf Lecture Hall Center, Friedrich-Hirzebruch-Allee 5, 53115 Bonn.
- Lockers: accessible lockers are located in the library entrance area.
- Tactile paving: Friedrich-Hirzebruch-Allee and the MNL Branch Library’s forecourt feature tactile paving for the visually impaired leading to the library entrance. There is unfortunately no tactile paving in place within the library itself.
