Vocational training

we offer:

Training positions for media and information service specialists, with focus on librarianship

Trainees for media and information service specialists are usually called "FaMI", irrespective of whether they have chosen the field archive, library, picture agency, information and documentation or medical documentation. The ULB Bonn offers training in the field of librarianship. As a FaMi, you deal with the acquisition and indexing of books, above all, help with the provision and advise the users.
In short: you can work in various interesting areas of the library and you also deal, not only with media and computers, but above all with people.

Interesting facts about vocational training
The training is performed in a dual system, i.e. a vocational training college (in your specific case the Joseph-DuMont- vocational training college) that is responsible for the theoretical training and a training institution (as, for instance, ULB Bonn) is responsible for the practical training. The training lasts for three years and starts each year in August.

The training focuses on the key tasks in a library and provides the necessary knowledge and skills in the fields of acquisition, indexing and the processing of media as well as the maintenance of the collections. In addition to this, user services and information services are also included.

IT specialist in system integration

IT specialist trainees in system integration are usually called “FiSI”. As a “FiSI”, you will design and configure complex IT-systems. You are an in-house service provider and will install these systems according to the requirements and run and manage these.
This includes, in the case of a fault, the systematic location, isolation and resolution of errors with the help of expert and diagnostic system tools.
You support and advise users in choosing and using devices and you solve application and system problems. In addition, you create system documentation and conduct training sessions for the users.

Internships

The ULB Bonn enables and gives trainees and students an insight into the key tasks of a large scientific library in the form of internships.
We offer the following opportunities in the area of internships:

Internship in the framework of the training positions for media and information service specialists.

Internships are mandatory in order to familiarise the specialists for media and information services already during their training period with the practical key tasks of institutions that are different to the chosen specialist direction.
An internship of at least three weeks should be completed successfully after the first year of training and before the intermediate examination. The ULB is more than prepared to offer an in-depth look at the typical tasks to FaMIs, who do not undertake an internship at a scientific library, and enables their participation.

Places for this kind of internship are not advertised.
Due to the need for pre-planning, we would be delighted if you could communicate your interest preferably in due time. Send your application to the training supervisors.
