Restrictions and Information on the Transitional Phase

The switch to the new library management system is slated for August 14, 2023. There will be a few weeks of restrictions and changes to services at the Bonn University and State Library (USL) as we transition from the old to the new system.

Please factor in these restrictions in good time

Some dates and arrangements have yet to be finalized; this web page will be updated on an ongoing basis. We will also be providing details of all the steps in news items and on our Facebook and Instagram social media channels.

The following will remain available at all times:

  • Literature searches in our bonnus search portal
  • Access to electronic media (e-books, e-periodicals and databases)
  • Use of workspaces during opening hours
  • Consulting the reading room collections on the premises

Restrictions and information

Workstations

  • August 14, 2023: brief restrictions on using the reservation system.
  • August 3  to 15, 2023: The Media Center in the MNL Branch Library will be closed.

Borrowing and returning items

  • From May 2, 2023 until the end of August: ZB MED items held in Bonn at the MNL Branch Library cannot be borrowed but can still be consulted on site.
  • By June 15, 2023: any items from ZB MED’s Bonn-based holdings borrowed from the MNL Branch Library must be returned. You will be notified by email.
  • From June 19, 2023 onward: return dates for items will automatically be set to a date in September.
  • 07/03/2023: No borrowing and return in Library of Mathematics until 9 am.
  • From July 31 until August 13, 2023: you will not be able to order items from the closed stacks.
  • From August 3 to 13, 2023: the Loan Departments in the Main Library, MNL Branch Library and Library of Mathematics are likely to be closed.
    • You will not be able to borrow or return items between these dates.
    • The open stacks will be closed during this time.
  • August 14 and 15, 2023: restricted opening for the Loan Departments:
    • Main Library: 10 am to 6 pm
    • MNL Branch Library: 10 am to 5 pm
    • Library of Mathematics: 8:30 am to 10 pm
    • Standard opening hours will apply from August 16, 2023 onward.

Library cards

  • From July 31 to August 15, 2023: you will not be able to request or renew library cards.
  • From August 3 to 13, 2023: you will not be able to collect library cards that you have already ordered at the loans desks. You will receive an email from the loans desk telling you when you can collect your library card.

bonnus search portal

  • 07/03/2023: from 8 am to an estimated 9 am no account functions in bonnus are available.
  • From July 31 to August 13, 2023: you will not be able to change your email address or telephone number yourself during this time. Neither will you be able to place any orders or make any reservations.
  • August 13, 2023: you have until then to save lists of favorites permanently in your user account. For the purposes of your planning, please note that saved lists of favorites will not be transferred into the new bonnus search portal. If you need them, you will have to export them in advance by August 13, 2023.
  • The new bonnus search portal is expected to be available on August 14, 2023 with all features restored.

Acquisitions

  • From June 19 until October 1, 2023: the acquisition of new items will be suspended. You will not be able to propose items for acquisition during this time.
  • The list of new acquisitions will not be updated from July 2023 until further notice.

Interlibrary loan service

Scanning service

  • From late July until early September 2023: employees of the University of Bonn will not be able to place any orders with the USL’s scanning service.
