The Bonn University and State Library (USL) will not be able to provide you with its interlibrary loan service for books and book chapters between June 5, 2023 and (provisionally) August 14, 2023.

This is due to the switch to our new Alma library management system. 

Ordering articles for free

Orders for articles can still be placed and will be free of charge during the transitional phase. 


Local libraries

Instead of using the USL, you could register with a local library and use its interlibrary loan service.

Our recommendations:


Bonn City Library—within walking distance of the USL in Bonn city center

Registration and library cards:

  • By post
  • In person

Fees:

  • You can either pay an annual fee (€30) or a three-month fee (€9).
  • Interlibrary loan fee: €2.50 per order

The following items cannot be ordered via the interlibrary loan service:

  • Books available in shops for under €15
  • Books published in the current year

Library of Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences—free registration for students from any state university in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW)

Fees:

  • Students from any state university in NRW can register for free, while all other users must pay an annual fee of €10.
  • Interlibrary loan fee: €1.50 per order (plus postage for your notification letter if you did not provide the library with an email address). You may also incur other costs, e.g. if the copy is particularly extensive.
  • Payment: you will require a transaction number (TAN) for every order, which you will need to purchase in the library in advance.

subito delivery service

You can also order books online via subito.

subito is a commercial delivery service that is separate from the interlibrary loan service and is arranged directly between the customer and the library making the delivery. It also applies its own pricing structure.
