FAQ on corona-related "safe operations"

Frequently asked questions about using the ULB in "safe operations" due to the corona virus.

I borrowed books from the ULB. For how long may I keep them?

You may keep borrowed media until further notice. A renewal is not necessary. We will announce a new loan period as soon as our houses are open again. Alternatively, you can register at https://listen.uni-bonn.de/wws/subscribe/ulb-aktuell for the mailing list "ulb-aktuell". We will also inform you in good time about a new loan period via the mailing list.

This regulation accounts for all books listed in your ULB account, meaning all books borrowed from the Main Library, the MNL Branch Library or the Library of Mathematics. This regulation also covers any media you borrowed via interlibrary loan.

Can I study and work in the library during "safe operations"?

Reading rooms, group study pods and work rooms remain closed until further notice.

Are the open stacks accessible?

The open stacks must remain closed at the moment. Members of the University of Bonn can place their order via online form.

I received notice, the return of a book or the compensation of a fee is overdue. What shall I do?

Nothing. Please ignore such reminders until further notice.

I borrowed books via interlibrary loan. For how long may I keep them?

For the interlibray loan, the same regulations apply as for all other media (see above).

Am I charged fees during "safe operations"?

No. Your fee account will be "frozen" as of March 18th. All fees that have been incurred on your account up to March 18th and have not yet been paid will remain. However, you will not incur any further fees due to the automatic renewal. If you have received an email about exceeding the loan period, please consider this as invalid.

My account shows open fees. When do I have to pay them?

You may pay your open fees, charged before March 18th, upon complete reopening of the ULB. There is no need to take action as long as the "safe operations" persist.

I want to renew my library card. Is that possible?

Currently, only members of the University of Bonn can apply online for an renewal of library card.

I ordered books to the reading room. For how long will these be kept available for me?

All media ordered to the reading room will be reserved for you until further notice.

Interlibrary loans remain in the reading room for as long as the requirements of the lending library permit. However, you can only view the books after the reading room has been reopened.

I ordered books to the lending desk, but I was not able to pick them up in time. How long are these books available to me?

All media of the ULB allocated for you stay available at least until the Main Library and the MNL Branch Library reopens completely. This also applies to the interlibrary loan.

May I order or make a reservation on books as long as the "safe operations" persist?

Currently, only members of the University of Bonn can pre-order books online.

Interlibrary loans are available for me in the reading room or in the loan desk. How long are they available for me?

Interlibrary loans made available to you at the loan desk will remain available until further notice. Interlibrary loans remain in the reading room for as long as the requirements of the lending library permit. However, you can only view the books that are intended for use in the reading room after the reading room has reopened.

For how long are essays, orderd via interlibrary loan available to me?

You may pick up the desired essay until the end of the year.

What can be ordered via interlibrary loan during the "safe operations" of the ULB?

Currently, you can ONLY order articles from journals via interlibrary loan. The articles will be delivered to the e-mail address you entered. This service is limited until May 31st, 2020. We will inform you in time on our homepage about the resumption of the ordering of/from books.

Is it possible to place an interlibrary loan order while the ULB is closed?

Currently, you can ONLY order articles from journals via interlibrary loan. The articles will be delivered to the e-mail address you entered. This service is limited until May 31, 2020. We will inform you in time on our website about the resumption of the interlibrary loan service for books.

Is there an alternative to the interlibrary loan?

Yes, you can order your literature via subito. Please be aware of the service conditions (also in the time of Corona) directly on the website of subito.

I require items I deposited in one of the lockers inside Main Library or MNL Branch Library. How can I retrieve them?

Are there currently introductions to library use or training courses on Citavi at the ULB?

At the moment, it is not possible to hold introductory events and training courses on site. You can find self-study materials and instructional videos about Citavi on eCampus:

How can I make scientific literature I have written available for teaching digitally?

In addition to the possibility to provide research literature via closed eCampus rooms, you can arrange a second publication in open access via the university open access publication server bonndoc. In this way, you not only reach your students, but also increase the overall visibility of the publication.

Can I provide my publication digitally?

You can use the open access publication server bonndoc to publish scientific literature free of charge in Open Access as a socalled second publication. Primary publications can also be implented via bonndoc. In this case, however, there is no scientific assessment.
